Yoga is a method of discipline developed over 5,000 years ago in India. The word Yoga means “union” and refers to the union of body, mind and spirit, as well as a compassionate awareness that all persons are connected. Yoga is not a religion, but does encourage spiritual growth. It is not necessary to surrender your own religious beliefs to practice yoga. The physical practice (asana) is just one aspect of Yoga. We connect the movement of the body to the rhythm of our breath, balancing effort and surrender in each pose. This meditative approach calms the mind and heart and helps us to live more fully in the present moment. The benefits of Yoga are life-changing: newfound agility balanced by increased strength and coordination; greater flexibility enhanced cardiovascular health, sharper mental focus, greater self-confidence, and overall well-being.
At Pilates for Life, we invite you to come as you are. All you need to begin practicing Yoga is your body, your mind and a bit of curiosity. Our Yoga classes are open to all levels.
